Hierarchical flower-like architectures of[Ni_3(BTC)_2·12H_2O](BTC^3=benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate) were successfully prepared by a simple solution-phase method under mild conditions without any template or surfactant.Phase-pure porous NiO nanocrystals were obtained by annealing the Ni-BTC complex without significant alteration in morphology. The product was characterized by X-ray diffraction techniques,field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM).transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and high-resolution TEM(HRTEM).The catalytic effect of the NiO product was investigated on the thermal decomposition of ammonium perchlorate(AP) and it was found that the annealed NiO product has higher catalytic activity than the commercial NiO.
An economical idea was developed to synthesize fluorescent carbon quantum dots (CQDs) directly fl-om the refluxing extraction of orange pericarp via a hydrothermal technique. Hydrothermal temperatures and times were adjusted to control the particle sizes and the quantum yields of the obtained CQDs. The as-prepared carbon quantum dots showed narrow particle size distribution, good water solubility, and acceptable fluorescence lifetimes. Due to their high stability, these obtained carbon quantum dots have great application potential in nano-biotechnology. Furthermore, carbon spheres with uniform morphology and size can be easily obtained as the reaction byproducts of this green synthesis process.

Cube-like Ag-Ag2MoO4 composite has been successfully prepared in the presence of PVP (potyvinylpyrrolidone) via a facile microwave-assisted hydrothermal process. Studies of its photocatalytic performance in the decomposition of RhB indicate that the cube-like Ag-Ag2MoO4 composite exhibits good catalytic activities under visible-light irradiation. The face that Ag pro- motes the absorption of visible light may be attributed to the surface plasmon resonance. Further XRD characterization after recycle photocatalytic tests confirms that partial Ag~ ions in Ag2MoO4 have been reduced to metallic Ag. Reaction temperature, reaction time and the amount of PVP have also been studied and found to play crucial roles in the formation of the cube-like microstructures.
A new metal complex [MnL2](NO3)2.CH3CN (1) was synthesized by reaction of 4'-4-(],2,4-triazol-]-yl)- phenyl-2,2':6',2"-terpyridine (L) with manganese nitrate. The structure of the complex was determined by X-ray crystallography. The results of UV-vis studies showed that the complex exhibits colorimetric sensing ability for Fe3~, which can be observed by naked eye.
