The transmission characteristics of the optical label switching system based on the FSK/ASK orthogonal modulation format is investigated.The factors that affect the transmission performance,such as the FSK tone space,dispersion compensation and coupler split ratio,are studied by numerical simulation.The proposed scheme is also experimentally demonstrated with a transmission of 155 Mbit/s FSK label combined with 10 Gbit/s ASK payload.
A novel architecture for wavelength-division-multiplexing passive optical network (WDM-PON) with centralized light-wave is proposed and demonstrated. At the optical line terminal (OLT) session of this architecture,optical differential quadrature phase shift keying (DQPSK) modulated signal with constant-intensity at 10 Gbit/s is utilized for downstream transmission. At the optical network unit (ONU),part of the downstream optical power is remodulated with on-off keying (OOK) intensity modulation at 10 Gbit/s for upstream without additional laser. Simulation results show that the power penalties of the downstream for 20 km single-mode fiber (SMF) transmission and multi-channels are negligible. While for the upstream,the power penalties are obvious. The simulation results and analysis also reflect that by reducing the launch power of DQPSK transmitters,power penalties can be reduced,although the transmission distance is limited.

This article introduces the basic structure of a symmetric self-electrooptic effect device (S-SEED), and applies the Kirchoff’s current law and a purely equivalent capacitive model, to analyze S-SEED’s switch characteristics. Linear approximation and N-segment approximation are utilized to obtain S-SEED’s voltage-time (V-T) and characteristics. Theoretical analysis is verified by simulations, and the results demonstrate that the precision of S-SEED’s switch time can satisfy the requirement in applications with linear approximation. Moreover, the simulations compare S-SEED’s switch characteristics with different input powers and input contrast ratios, which reveal that increasing input contrast ratio is an effective way to improve S-SEED’s switch characteristics.

Proposed is a novel optical code(OC) label switching scheme in which an optical label is constructed by multiple parallel optical codes.The performances of splitting loss and BER are simulated and analyzed.Simulation results show that the proposed label can be correctly recognized to perform packet switching.Compared with reported schemes using one OC as a label,the splitting loss in our proposal is lowered.

Three dispersion compensation schemes of an optical label switching transmission system were investigated,which employs 40 Gbit/s return zero differential phase-shift keying(RZ-DPSK) payload labeled with 2.5 Gbit/s on-off keying(OOK) signal based on the optical carrier suppression and separation(OCSS) technique.In the system,proposed are the receiver sensitivity of payload and label,achieving-32.4 dBm and-38.5 dBm,respectively.Using the optimal dispersion compensation scheme,after transmitted over 160 km and 320 km SMF respectively,the label can be recovered without power penalty,while the payload can be recovered with less than 2 dB and 5 dB penalty,respectively.
