The nanocrystals based on a polar organic compound INBP (4-iodo-4′-nitrobiphenyl) have been fabricated by reprecipitation approach. For the formation of INBP based nanocrystals, the intermolecular iodo…nitro interaction is the dominant driving force and the micelles formed by the surfactant CTAB (cetyltrimethylammonium bromide) molecules are the efficient templates for controlling morphologies of nanocrystals. The field emission scanning electro microscope (FESEM) images demonstrated that prism-like and needle-like nanocrystals of INBP were formed in pure water and micell containing aqueous solution, respectively. XRD pattern and UV/vis absorption spectra were employed to characterize the nanocrystals.

A series of platinum meso-tetrakis [3-methoxy-4-(N-carbazyl)n-alkyloxyphenyl]porphyrin (Pt-4Cn-TPP, n = 4, 6 and 8) are synthesized. Pt-4C4-TPP, Pt-4C6-TPP and Pt-4C8-TPP exhibit similar luminescent properties in solution and solid state. Three protonated platinum (II) porphyrins are assembled with mesoporous silica MCM-48, respec- tively, resulting in assembly materials Pt-4Cn-TPP4+/ MCM-48 (n = 4, 6 and 8). The luminescent intensity of Pt-4Cn-TPP4+/MCM-48 can be extremely quenched by molecular oxygen with high sensitivity (I0/I100 > 9). The Stern-Volmer plots of these assembly materials display considerable linearity within a wide range of oxygen concentration (0 to 100%). The re- sponse time is all ≤ 1 s and recovery time ≤ 22 s for these assembly materials.

Hydrothermal reactions of Cu (II) ace-tate, 2,2′-bipyridyl (bpy) with 5-nitroisophthalic acid (H2NIPH) resulted in a new coordination polymer [Cu(NIPH)(bpy)] 1. Single crystal X-ray diffraction experiment indicates that 1 possesses a single helix- like chains, of which Cu atoms are coordinated by NIPH ligands and bpy ligands. Compound 1 crystal-lizes in the space group P2(1)/c, a = 0.955(19) nm, b = 1.259(3) nm, c = 1.3737(3) nm, β = 95.13(3)°, V = 1.6455(6) nm3 and Z = 4. The TGA analysis shows that 1 has no remarkable weight loss up to 284℃, as a result of its high thermal stability. Magnetic meas-urements indicate an antiferromagnetic behavior of compound 1.
