Prophaenognatha robusta gen.et sp.nov.(Scarabaeoidea:Scarabaeidae:Aclopinae),the best-preserved aclopine fossil so far,is described and illustrated from the Upper Jurassic-Lower Cretaceous Yixian Formation of the Jehol Biota, western Liaoning Province,NE China. The key to extinct and extant genera of Aclopinae is given and the monophyly of extant and fossil Aclopinae lineages is supported by five character states. The new taxon provides evidence about the evolution of Scarabaeoidea with its phylogenetic position inferred based on 68 morphological characters.
Meligethes (Meligethes) pallidoelytrorum, Chen et Kirejtshuk sp. nov. is described and illustrated from Sichuan, China. It can be readily distinguished from related species by the smoothed dorsal integument, diffused and sparse punctations on elytra and the very distinct tooth at base of the claw. Meligethes (Meligethes) lutra Solsky, 1876, syn. nov. and M. (M.) melleus Grouvelle, 1908, syn. nov. are proposed as the synonymies of M. (3l.)vulpes Solsky, 1876.
The main diagnostic characters, taxonomic history and classification of a little-known beetle family, Prionoceridae Lacordaire, 1857 are summarised. A key to the genera is presented. A catalogue of the Chinese species in this group is provided, including literature citations and geographical distribution. New faunistic data are provided for several Chinese species, including new province records for Lobonyx guerryi (Pic, 1920), Prionocerus bicolor Redtenbacher, 1868, P. coeruleipennis Perry, 1831, ldgia deusta Fairmaire, 1878 and I. flavirostris Pascoe, 1860.
Based on comparison of the type specimens, Parapolytrechus [sic] flavotarsus Wang & Zheng, 2002 is a new junior synonym ofNeoxenicotela mausoni Breuning, 1947.
