Objective: To study the characteristics of male and female clients in psychological counseling in general hospital. Methods:All the original case records of psychological counseling in the third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University over the last 3 years were summarized. Results: The total number of the clients was 14,689. The proportion of male to female was 1.08 to 1. Most of the clients were at the age of 20 to 29 years old. Significant differences were found between male and female clients in the marriage status,occupation,education level and so on. Conclusion: Male and female clients showed different characteristics in psychological counseling in general hospitals.
